Larsson Signs For United

Sir Alex Ferguson managed to quell all the rumours about United's intentions to buy a striker in January: he's secured the services of Henrik Larsson.

The former Celtic and Barcelona ace, currently playing for Swedish Helsingborgs will join the team on January 1 on a loan deal that expires on March 12.

Sir Alex Ferguson called me last night and greeted me to Manchester United,' he revealed. 'We spoke a little about a match and how it looked like with Christmas and the new year.

'They have been after me before - after the first or second season with Celtic. It feels nice to come and play for such a big club.

'I probably won't play every match from the start, but for me it feels like a very fun thing to contribute at such a late stage in my career. My family are okay with it too,' he added.

Unlike many United supporters, I think this transfer makes sense. Ferguson does not want to use Alan Smith, that's clear, Smudger didn't even make the bench in the last few games. The boss seems to think Giuseppe Rossi is too inexperienced and lightweight to provide cover for Saha and Rooney whilst Ole is quite fragile now.

The truth is, we have nothing to lose. He comes on loan, he's a decent, experienced striker who played a major part in Barcelona's European Cup triumph over Arsenal. I'm sure he'll be able to contribute with some goals when it's necessary.
