Ruud Scuppers Rooney Hat-trick

Any squad boasting Wayne Rooney has to be respected and after a couple of lacklustre performances, the 20-year-old burst back to life with an impressive brace.

It would have been a hat-trick had Ruud van Nistelrooy handed over responsibility for the late penalty which wrapped up the scoring.

However, Rooney has no problem with the Dutchman smashing home spot-kicks, while his manager believes the precocious striker can score hat-tricks without the aid of penalties.

Rooney: 'There was no way Ruud was going to give it to me. He is the penalty taker. If he is on the pitch, he takes it.

'I am just pleased to get the two. It takes me to nine for the season and hopefully I can go on a bit of a run now.'
