Ferdinand Doubtful For Sunday

Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand is battling to be fit for Sunday's Premiership showdown with Chelsea.

The world's most expensive centre-back was limping heavily as he left the field at Parkhead following United's 1-0 defeat against Celtic. He is reported to have collected a foot injury and though the pain he feels has eased a lot, he could still be doubtful for the big game.

To be honest, I think this is just one of the mind-games Fergie has played so professionally down the years. Allowing Chelsea to hope our formidable defense pairing of Vidic and Ferdinand would break up might prove to be a good strategy ahead of such a crunch game. I'd be very suprised if Rio didn't play on Sunday though it's possible, of course.

But it's still interesting. Three points separate the two teams, with United having the upper hand at the moment. Both teams have lost 1-0 their respective midweek Champions League games. At Bremen, Chelsea's in-form striker limped off the pitch after 67 minutes and he, too, could be doubtful for the game. Chelsea's number one attacker and United's number one defender would miss the big match? It would certainly take away from some of its glamour.

Hope its a match abandoned, points deducted for both affair this weekend. Given some of the bile which has emanated from United fans about Celtic, I'm afraid to say I place you in the same category as Chelsea fans. Now that is sad. Sadder still, those hard up players of yours will not be cashing in on a Green and White exodus to OT for testimonials - if anything, we'd hate to break the United tradition of a hushed atmosphere.

and another thing, hope Benfica pump you too.
