'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Fergie: Patience Paid Off

Sir Alex Ferguson regards today's victory as a game to highlight United's ability to handle pressure and remain patient when necessary. The Reds recorded a 2-1 victory at Sheffield United after going behind early in the game. The hosts defence managed to frustrate our attackers for long periods but fifteen minutes from time, Rooney sealed the victory.

'Sheffield United set up a system to make sure it was going to be difficult for us and they proved that" Fergie said. "I think the important thing is that we kept our patience, we kept probing, we made some good chances in the match. I was hoping we'd get a goal before half-time, because I felt that if we'd gone in 1-0 down, it was going to be a long road back. I think they would have been more entrenched. I think the goal gave us a bit of patience to wait and wait and eventually we got there.

'You always hope that by being patient and using the skill we have, I thought that Scholes and Carrick totally controlled that area of the field and kept the probing going, there was always a possibility that we'd make the chance that mattered. The goal came from an unsual source really, a long ball to the back post is not the way we'd normally score a goal, but we're grateful for it. It was a marvellous finish from Wayne Rooney.

'We're winning matches, we can always look back and say 'maybe we're a bit careless with finishing at times' or 'we should have won by more', but it's more important to win these difficult away games.

'I'll make a couple of changes for Tuesday.'

We're ready alright merlin. Utd are the better side but better teams have came and lost at Celtic Park. 1 home defeat out of 11 in the CL, most teams are beaten at kick off just with the noise from the stands. Should be a classic, looking forward to it.
