Jewell 'This Is A Nonsense!'

Jewell 'This Is A Nonsense!'

Wigan manager Paul Jewell has slammed the criticism of Ferguson.

Jewell: 'It's complete nonsense he is getting stick. He has been a top manager in this country for years, has won everything in the game, and I don't think he needs to prove anything to anybody.

'Anyone who has a modicum of common sense, or a modicum of football knowledge knows that.

'They're still third in the table, yet they are supposed to be in a crisis, a bit like ourselves despite the fact we're seventh with 25 points.

'So both teams are struggling. It's got all the makings of a drab 0-0 draw - so we will take that and go home now!

'I didn't know they were booed off because I had my headphones on at the time. They are maybe going through a sticky patch, but they are still a great club and a great team as far as I'm concerned.

'I watched them on Sunday and I thought it was a tremendous game, in particular in the first half with Wayne Rooney in full flow. We know it's going to be a major test for us, but it's one we are looking forward to and one we will be ready for.

'I'm sure they'll want to take their recent disappointment out on somebody - just hopefully not us.'
