'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Gutsy United

Manchester United collected three points at Ewood Park on Saturday to stay three points clear at the top, thanks to Louis Saha's 64th minute goal. Sir Alex Ferguson was pleased with the performance, particularly with the fighting spirit of the team.

I was really pleased with the guts we showed," Sir Alex told Sky Sports. "We worked really hard to get the result, because we had to. We always find it difficult here. It`s a hard place to come to for any team.

"It`s a derby game, so tensions are always going to be high. You need good concentration. In the main, defensively we did quite well. In attack, we could have scored more goals. But a 1-0 victory against Blackburn is a very good one."

Sir Alex now believes United have proven their title credentials.

We have proven that we have a chance this year,' added Sir Alex. 'We're staying up with Chelsea. They have done fantastically well in the last two years, winning the league early on. We have started well, which must give us a chance.

"But we have to get through December - always a difficult month. It`s a pivotal time, because after that you have a good idea of who will be contesting the league. We need to keep our form going and control the injury situation, that is important too."
