Ronaldo For Captain?

I always suspected Luiz Felipe Scolari is not the managerial genius that some people think he is. But now he has confirmed it.

Portugal coach Scolari thinks, for reasons best known to himself that United's Cristiano Ronaldo has everything it takes to become one of the captains of the national side. Say it with your hand on your heart, Big Phil. You still insist he can be captain one day? Retire, the sooner the better. But hear the man himself.

'I think during my time in Portugal he will become one of the captains of our team because he has the charisma for it, he has potential,' he told a news conference to announce his 20-man squad for a Euro 2008 qualifier.

'He is young but he is learning very quickly how to lead a group,'

Well, of course it's his job to decide whom he selects as captain. But I think Ronaldo is simply not the man for such a job. I mean, he never showed any leadership qualities and he's not the kind of person whom I would regard with utmost respect if I played with him. Maybe, one day, when he's 30, he can become a captain as an acknowledgement of his achievements, age and long service - just as Ryan Giggs have become vice-captain at us despite that he never had a captain's personality.

By the way, Ronaldo is grateful for the fans who stood behind him following his 'little incident' with Wayne Rooney at he 2006 World Cup.

'The fans have helped me so much,' he was quoted as saying. 'When I arrived back after the World Cup - it was a bit difficult for me. But I think the supporters have helped me, and I`m very appreciative to the club, and my team-mates. Manchester, the club, has helped me so much.'

got to agree with you, not a captain and a player who can frustrate just as much as he can dazzle.
The Fear
Well, Nuno Gomes is going to wear the armband in Portugal's next game so it's clear Scolari struggles to find a REAL captain...

Could lead the way with some of his hystrionics! Bit of play acting, some pretend crying, bit of diving!! How can he be so totally different players for Utd and his country!
BaldyYid
he chould do it and it wud make him a better player
rooneyisgod
the reverse is that the additional responsibility and challenge may actually make him grow up a bit and stop the nonsense that somehow undermines the talent that he clearly has....

Definately ISN'T capable of being a captain, and for the national side? Defiantely not! He's too selfish to be a captain for starters!

Perhaps he would top cheating and diving. Beckham grew up when he became captain.
miked_joker
