The Rumour Mill

The Rumour Mill

I don't want to write a long introduction to this as there are some astonishing rumours around so it's better to get started!

First, and foremost many sources claimed Bayern are ready to swap Owen Hargreaves for either John O'Shea or Wes Brown plus some money. I can bear the thought, to be honest.

Brown is apparently a wanted man, as it's rumoured Spurs are considering a bid for him in January as he seems to be far from securing a first-team spot, with Nemanja Vidic impressive this season.

Our stadium is also impressive, but for our 20-year-old boss, a capacity 76,000 is simply not enough. Fergie's quoted in the Mirror, saying he'd like to increase the number of seats to a 100,000.

'We're a big club and we're going to get bigger,' said Fergie. 'If I had to point to an aspect in which I've done well, and I think the directors would admit this, it's that I've always pushed them to increase the size of the stadium.

'When it went up to 76,000 and our chief executive David Gill made the announcement and I was asked for a quote, I said once we got to 100,000 I would be happy.

'I knew that David would be panicking at that. After all, it would entail going over the railway line behind the main stand and buying up houses. But we could do it.

'The next step could be filling in the third and fourth quadrants, without touching the railway, to get the capacity over 90,000. I'll be pushing for that.'

We'll see if his plans fit in the Glazers' jigsaw. Maybe not, but we can be pretty sure that transfer policy is still his responsibility. Therefore, if rumours are to be believed, he's the one who wants another of his fellow countrymen at United as the club has reportedly shown interest in Rangers' U16 international John Fleck whou could join David Gray and Daniel Galbraith on the list of recently-acquired Scottish teenagers.

As far as I'm aware, there are no Slovakian teenagers at the club but a few people think it's time to change this. The rumours say United have joined the race for 19-year-old Brescia star, Marik Hramsik who is thought to have caught the eye of the scouts of Liverpool, Chelsea, Inter, Real and Barcelona, too. His price is believed to be around £6m, a rather extraordinary amount for a Slovakian youngster.
