Losing Out ?

Losing Out ?

The quest to fill the void left at the heart of our defence following the departures of Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand continues.

The start of the new season is less than a week away but still, as far as the centre of our defence is concerned, there has been no influx of new, world-class talent.

One name put forward as a potential acquisition is that of the AS Roma centre-back Medhi Benatia.

At 27 years of age Benatia is in the prime of his career and although he still has four years left on his current contract the belief is there that the Moroccan international could be acquired for a fee in the region of £30 million.

His defensive work last season saw him acknowledged, by many, as the best centre-back in Serie A and there`s no doubting that he would be a valuable asset to our club.

But, we do appear to have a rival for his signature with it also being suggested that Chelsea are keen to take the player from Rome to London.

More worryingly, Chelsea hold that trump card of being able to offer the play Champions League football if he does decide to opt for London rather than Manchester!

Would love to see this one happen. Would be awesome to see Hummels brought in alongside him also.

That would be the perfect scenario at this point Hummels and Benetia but its more likely to be Carragher and Neville at this rate.

I don't think it's the lack of champions league football that will cost us players it's muppet Woodwards incompetence. Just sign the lad with Hummels and sod the cost as we're supposedly loaded. I wonder if Gary would come back don't want Carragher though he'd just argue with Gary all the time we don't want disharmony in the ranks.
