'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Still a Few Ifs and Buts`

The talk of Thomas Vermaelen coming to Old Trafford continues to grab our attention.

All summer there has been talk of the Arsenal player and Belgian international becoming a Manchester United player before the summer ends.

Today (Saturday), the talk suggests that United are set to capture the 28 year-old centre back, even though he is suffering from a hamstring injury picked up during the World Cup and that Arsenal will sanction his departure on the premise that they are able to capture 31 year-old Alvaro Arbeola from Real Madrid.

As you can see there are several ifs and buts` to be sorted before a deal is completed, therefore we`ll endeavour to keep you all informed as necessary.

It would be madness to sign him if he's injured. After all the 'watch this space' talk from Woodward the Vermaelen links are very underwhelming. Yeah he's a good, experienced premier league CB but that's where the buck stops with him and we need so much more than that especially after having lost Vidic, Rio and Evra.

You don't lose a colossus like Vidic and replace him with a rivals cast off, for one the level we require is not what Vermaelen offers and two, it sends out completely the wrong signal to our fans and our rivals. All the impetus and momentum brought in by finally getting a top manager with the charisma to match even Jose will be wasted if we do not secure some top transfer targets, we need to make a statement.
