Vermaelen Deal Talk

The press is still running with the story that Manchester United, under our new manager Louis Van Gaal, are keen to bring the Arsenal defender, Thomas Vermaelen to Old Trafford.

Apparently, a fee of 10 million is being mentioned with it also being inferred that Vermaelen is seen as an ideal experienced replacement for the departed dup of Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand.

Vermaelen, now 28 years of age, has one year left on his current contract at Arsenal and the speculation doing the rounds also infers that the Arsenal boss, Arsene Wenger, could be interested in doing a player plus cash deal that would, quite perhaps, see either Tom Cleverley or Chris Smalling make the move in the opposite direction.

Wouldn't mind if he's a stop gap solution to add some depth and experience to a defence which is otherwise inexperienced and shallow. Did much prefer the upcoming exciting youngsters we were being linked to though like Indi and Vlaar who played blinders against an array of Spanish talent.
