Newcastle (a) - Inside the Record Books

This afternoon Manchester United face Newcastle United, at St James Park, in a Premier League fixture.

Ahead of the clash we`ve delved into the record books to see what they tell us and we`ve come up with the following:-

United travel to St James Park hoping to prevent Newcastle from doing the double over us. In the reciprocating fixture, at Old Trafford, Newcastle won 1-0 courtesy of a goal from Yohan Cabaye, who has since left to join Paris St Germain. The last time Newcastle did a home and away double over United was way back in 1930/1931.

Our hosts enter this fixture on a poor run of form having lost 9 of their last 14 Premier League matches, the remaining 5 have seen 4 wins and 1 draw.

Newcastle, in their last 2 Premier League fixtures have conceded 7 goals and scored 0.

Despite having, by our standards, a poor season, Manchester United have the best away record in the Premier League, taking 30 points from a possible 48 available.

If Manchester United take the lead in a Premier League game they don`t lose. This season United have done so on 14 occasions winning 12 of those and drawing 2.

Unfortunately, when it comes to playing sides in the top half of the table, Manchester United have a poor record having only won 2 out of 15 matches, losing 9 and drawing 4.

If we had a home record befitting of a club of our stature we would easily be well up their competing for the league. It's mad to think it's been our achilles heel whilst our away form has been league winning standard.
It's beyond me Famous it really is. God knows what the hell is going on.
