Rooney Injury Concern

As Manchester United prepare to take on Newcastle United, up at St James Park, today, they will do so without the services of Wayne Rooney.

Rooney will miss the Premier League fixture after picking up a toe injury in the Champions League quarter final first leg tie against Bayern Munich.

Discussing the situation with the media, ahead of the game with Newcastle, David Moyes has remarked,

"Wayne will be touch-and-go for Munich. There`s not an awful lot you can do with a toe injury. Sometimes you can feel better quite quickly, sometimes you need an injection to play if it is bruising."

"With a lot of toes injuries you have to make sure there isn`t a hairline fracture or crack. We will have all that checked."

"He was limping quite badly at the end of the first game. It`s unfortunate. He is a miss for us."

It`s bad enough having Robin Van Persie side-lined through injury but if we have to face Bayern Munich, next Wednesday evening, with van Persie and Rooney, a hard task just got a whole lot harder!

I wish I could call in work saying I'm not coming in with the excuse of a bruised toe :P

It's a shame but to be honest I didn't think Rooney was all that great against Bayern in the first leg and for was guilty of giving the ball away far too much. His cross for the goal can't cover up for what was an underwhelming and poor performance.

I'm even less bothered because Rooney not playing will surely mean Hernandez will play in his place and after watching Bayerns defence in the first leg the thought of Hernandez running the line against them is quite tantalising. The pace and off-the-ball runs from him and Welbeck will cause Bayern massive headaches, even if it's only 2 or 3 times thoughout the entire match, which you've got to expect with Bayerns keep ball style, them two could win us the game.
You would like to think that Hernandez would play against Bayern if Rooney is out but I wouldn't be surprised to see Fellaini thrown up front and we'll knock 50 odd crosses into the Bayern box, who knows it could work. Hernandez is a lot more clinical than Welbeck so I hope Moyes doesn't shunt Welbeck up front and play Nani or whoever on the left. Whoever we go with we are playing for a troll result.
