Rooney on That Red Card

The animosity generated by the red-card Sebastian Schweinsteiger received the other night continues to make the headlines.

The Bayern Munich midfielder left the Old Trafford pitch believing he was hard done by and opinion remains divided whether that is the case or not.

However, the victim of the tackle that earned a second yellow card (and a subsequent red), Wayne Rooney, has no doubts the sending off was justified, remarking to the media,

"He could have hurt me."

"He`s gone in with his studs and the referee has booked him so it Is not my decision."

"I tried to stop myself getting hurt and the referee has had a decision to make."

"It`s not nice to see anyone sent off and I didn`t try to get him sent off. I think it`s a foul."

As for the exchange of colourful language when the German was leaving the pitch, Rooney further added,

"I don`t really want to say what he said. He`s a great player and obviously he is someone they will miss."

He is and because he`s one of Bavaria`s favourite sons` there could be a hot reception awaiting our striker next Wednesday evening.

It was justified, I'm not sure how their can be an argument any other way. What's funny is all of Bayerns bit(hing and whinging about a sending off when they were on the good end of the best call of the night, a supposed 'high foot' which deprived us of a legitimate goal.

Apparently Martinez cynically hacking Hernandez down when he turned him and looked to be through on goal was alright. Robben repeatedly diving and getting players sent off is alright also. However, if a Bayern player gets sent off, rightly or wrongly, that's bad in Bayerns books.

As for Robben crying about us setting up defensively with the game plan of catching them on the break before he gets on his high horse he needs to realise Bayern played the exact same way against Barca last year and to great effect.

I think everyone is best off taking anything coming out of the Bayern camp recently with a pinch of salt.
Think a lot of the Bayern bleating stems from them being given a fright. They know for all their possession we should have had three goals while they could only muster one or two clear cut chances. The mighty Bayern saved by poor decision making!
