United Confirm Rooney Talks

United Confirm Rooney Talks

First of all: happy birthday to Wayne Rooney who turned 21 today. This time no side is around with a staggering unbeaten sequence for him to celebrate properly as he had done two years ago but it's fitting for the occasion that United confirmed talks about a new contract have begun with the prodigious striker's representatives.

'Talks have started and both sides are hopeful of a successful conclusion,' a United spokesman told The Daily Express.

If reports are to be believed, Wayne is going to sign a ten-year contract (my goodness, can any of us see as far as 2016?) which will make him one of the highest paid footballers on Earth. Rooney has already declared he would happy to see out his playing days at Old Trafford and with such a lucrative agreement it would be difficult to tempt him away. Chief executive David Gill has allegedly held talks with Paul Stretford, Rooney's advisor so we can be reasonably optimistic (assuming that every United fan wants him to stay here as long as possible). I daresay the Glazers' popularity will receive a healthy boost if the club is able to secure Rooney for long term.
