Charlton Hails Great Scholes

Paul Scholes is set to become the eighth player in Manchester United's history to reach the 500 games landmark as Liverpool visit at Old Trafford tomorrow. The red-haired midfielder earned the praise of the greatest member of this exclusive club, Sir Bobby Charlton whose 759 appearances for United seem to be out of anyone's reach.

'Paul Scholes is without any shadow of a doubt one of the finest midfield players Manchester United has ever produced,' Sir Bobby told the Sun

'I can't believe he is already about to make his 500th appearance. To me he is still the young lad I saw 12 years ago - he is naturally gifted with great vision.

'We were all worried when he had an eye problem last season but it was wonderful to have him back after a long lay-off.

'His return to the team was like signing a new player. I can't speak highly enough of Paul Scholes.'

Scholesy started the season in fine form and he wasn't even bothered by his three-match ban. He netted his first goal of the season against FC Copenhagen on Tuesday with a tipically powerful and accurate shot from outside the box. I'd love to see one of these tomorrow.
