Is Moyes to Blame?

So after another home defeat, a lot of people are having a go at Moyes. Is he really to blame?

Winning the title last year just papered over the cracks. A midfield general has been missing ever since Keane left, and a world class creative midfielder has been missing for a long time. A lot of people may disagree or think I'm being harsh but far too many players in the squad are just not good enough. Cleverly and Kagawa are just not good enough, in my opinion Cleverly has never been good enough, he puts in okay performances from time to time but he's not first team material, he wouldn't get in the City or Chelsea team.

Kagawa may have been great at Dortmund but he's never adapted to the premiership. Evra is well past his best, and gets caught out defensively far too often. Nani has always been far too inconsistent and seems to perform when he wants to. Fabio and Chris Smalling are 2 players I would look to sell ASAP. What did Fabio do whilst on loan at QPR; not very much, barely played from what I can remember. Smalling had a lot of potential but is far too error prone for my liking. Buttner played quite well today but is no real competition for Evra. Ferdinand and Vidic are far too injury prone, and Ferdinand should definitely not be offered a new deal.

How often are we going to have the same old conversations about Rooney? Will he stay or will he go? In my opinion it was obvious he wanted to join Chelsea in the summer, and I would sell him now. Yes he has been the best player this season but do you really want to keep a player who doesn't want to play for the club? I believe mistakes were made in the summer transfer market, things were left to the last minute and Fellaini was bought as a panic buy. A lot of players need to be sold and world class replacements signed. The players I'd go for would be Coentrao, he would be a great replacement for Evra. Kurt Zouma would be my long term replacement for Vidic, he's big and strong and one of the best young centre backs in the world. Tiote would add some steel to the midfield, Marco Reus would be my replacement for Nani, he is far more consistent and would add a lot more goals to the team. Draxler or Fabregas would add great creativity to the team.

Is Moyes to blame? No, not really, in my opinion he's just been shafted big time. Fergie with the funds provided to him, regardless of whether it was sufficient or not, spent poorly and replaced world class or thereabouts players with mediocre players and 'potential' which turned out to be duds. Now, without the best manager around to lead them we're seeing the effects of what having a largely mediocre squad has on results.

Moyes has now got the tremendous challenge of getting the squad back to challenging on all fronts which involves bringing in proven class players at luxurious fees, something he has never had experience in doing before, with the added hurdle that his name holds no weight with Europes finest (how much of an effect that has though is debatable). Not to mention unless you're regularly signing big names it's hard to attract other big names (Berby & Fellaini were big fees but hardly big names) which is understandable really as it shows a lack of ambition and, as we've found it, it drives your current stars (Rooney and if you believe the rumblings RVP) away.

With regards to departures, it was always obvious a squad overhaul has been needed for sometime now but only now do I believe that it's on the horizon. Whilst I highly doubt Young, Nani, Anderson, Cleverley, Fabio and Macheda will be shipped out all in the coming Summer window I do feel they will slowly be shipped out over the coming seasons. Until we see the replacements though it's too early to hurrah.

The early signs though with Moyes talent spotting is good though deluded. Bale, Baines and Fabregas are the calibre of players we need but realistically not the ones we can get. The early signs suggest he c0(ked up with Fellaini but I think it's too premature to judge him as a flop just yet, let's see how he does next season before coming to any foregone conclusions (we're willing to give Kagawa time and make excuses for his persistent disappearing in games yet are so quick to brand Fellaini a flop when not realy given a chance and whilst playing with injuries). I also give Moyes some leeway with Fellaini because I understand his reasoning behind signing him, we lack goals and physicality on the pitch and Fellaini does tick all the boxes to provide that and did so last season for Everton, any failings with this transfer are more down to Fellaini and his mettle than Moyes. Ultimately he's looking for the right type of players which is reassuring.

I do think you're wrong with Smalling and whilst the expectation was for him to become the next Ferdinand to me he seems more like the next O'Shea. A solid option anywhere across the back-line, not world class but largely underrated who is a great squad player and an invaluable asset during a long season.

Buttner i've said before I like, whilst he might not be the most technically gifted defender he does gets stuck in and has a great attitude more similar to Rafael than his twin. First team starter no but ample competition for the starter most definitely.

In terms of incoming players whilst Reus, Gundogan, Fabregas and other players of their ilk are ideal solutions sadly it's unlikely any of them will leave their respective clubs any time soon. If we're looking to keep Rooney and RVP though I think we need to sign at least one or two ready made solutions. I don't believe either want to leave because of results just lack of ambition as stated by Rooney before. We do need to make a statement to these players that we are serious about being the best and winning everything and match their ambition.

Outside of the one or two world beaters, I think we should look towards getting in potential world beaters who can contribute now. Players like you mentioned in Zouma and Draxler are ideal candidates who i'd love to see us sign, as is Koke. Coentrao looks a decent solution to the left back problem though I imagine just a short term one until a better option becomes available like a Willems or Shaw who have the potential to be class fullbacks. Wouldn't mind seeing us sign other potentially class players like Bakkali and Vilhena either.

I don't see the fuss about Tiote though, he was pretty shocking last season and is far from the player we need especially now that Fletcher has seemingly returned. Would sooner see us get Wanyama than him if we're that insistent on getting a DM and giving up on Fellaini so quickly.

Seeing as it's cheering me up whilst we're playing fantasy football here's my ideal Summer:

Ins:
Gundogan
Reus
Draxler
Bakkali
Koke
Shaw
Zouma
Vilhena

Outs:
Young
Nani
Cleverley
Anderson
Fabio
Macheda

I don't necessarily want either Ferdinand and Evra out but I imagine they're going to leave in the coming future anyway, one to return back to France and the other to retire. Zaha should be allowed to leave on loan, Powell should be allowed to leave on loan again and if we manage to retain the services of all Rooney, RVP and Hernandez then Welbeck should be allowed to go on loan and develop his game also.

Lets be honest Moyes is at fault as much as Fergie, the Board and the players. Its not one issue its 4, the squad is *****, the players are lazy and lethargic, the Board are lining their pockets and handing a 6 year contract to a manager who was untried at our level just because he has worked on little funds all his career and Fergie "chose" Moyes knowing full well the state of the team he left him. Next season if we have gotten even worse bring in Klopp and give him the funds to bring in Gundogan and Reus. My main issue with Moyes is that he had the Summer to buy top players and he *****ed it away. For all the talk of "he needed to see who is worth keeping first" , every single person who looked through our squad would of known that the likes of Cleverley, Anderson, Buttner, Young, Welbeck are not good enough as well as the fact that half the team will be retiring soon, he should of made a statement of intent in the Summer, he didn't and now we are suffering. Its all well and good saying we nearly brought in De Rossi or Bale or whoever. The fact remains that as a manager in pre-season he should of done his job. He had no loyalty to any of the squad, he could so easily of gotten rid of the deadwood (just as he did to out top class backroom team) unlike Fergie who had to keep the likes of Anderson around because he spent 18 million on the donkey. Now we are told that we wont buy till the Summer only prob is that its a world cup year so that will ***** us over again and the excuses will be pumped out again. Tbh I cannot wait till this season is over, I *****ing love the club but its too hard to watch such incompetence at work hopefully over time we can sort this ***** out. Although we should be starting now in the January transfer window. Famous I cannot argue with that list of ins and outs, I would love to see us commit properly to an overhaul like that.

FFs wheres my paragraphs?

To do paragraphs on VF mate you've got to use break tags, effectively this without the asterisks <*b*r*> make sure you leave a space either side of it. It's HTML coding, though I imagine you're more interested in how to do it than all that.

I do understand your frustration though Kan, I'm just trying look positively at things, though it's getting harder to put a positive spin on things, footy manager helps :P

Whilst you keep at your "footy manager" indulgence, here's a toss to the 'Chosen One', the best manager for your mid-table mediocrity, sorry, excellence, and relegation dogfight starting from late February. Thanks Fergie for "choosing" Dave. Lol
HGH Magic
Funny thing is at one point I would've preferred Mourinho but lets be honest the not so special one has flattered to deceive since taking the helm for a second time at his supposed 'beloved' Chelsea (explains all the courting for the United job right Jose?). Thus far all he's done is belittle yet squander the good work of Benitez whilst, rather comically, doing worse himself with his rather typical boring brand of football. What's most amusing is you Chelsea fans revel in his hypocrisy and negative football and strut around victoriously like pigeons as you willy wave a flagellant and limp, metaphorically speaking, willy. Our situation is bad but other than your position in the league table is yours any more better? Massive financial losses, still no striker who can hit a barn door, still no deep-lying playmaker, the spine of the team is ageing all whilst your promising youngsters see you as a stepping stone on to bigger and better things. Delude yourself all you want, whatever helps you sleep at night but not even every Chelsea fans man crush who's still butt-hurt about not being Fergies chosen one has ruled us out. Now please do us and any visiting VF member the pleasure of returning to VC, don't want Merlin telling you off again for trolling do we?

What's most disappointing is you are capable of some cracking debate HGH you're just too preoccupied being a smart-arse and general bell-end to tolerate.
TheFamousNo7
yeah, thanks for the compliment matey. But hey, no veiled personal insults, ok? And watch out before you delude yourself any further to your wits' end, bell-end; you lot may be relegated, because at the rate you're losing at home Rooney may decide to dump the sinking ship knowing you sure won't stay up let alone qualify for even the Europa League next term, as City, Chelsea and Arsenal contend for league glory - the stuff of your nightmares! Perhaps it's time to call on Ian Holloway or Avram Grant for the dogfight, huh? Lmao ;)
HGH Magic
Not into churlish veiled personal attacks HGH if I wanted to insult you I would've. All I did was simply point out the truth and you're not exactly proving me wrong are ya? How many times have you copied and pasted that same comment or paraphrased version of it on different VMU articles?

Again loving the hypocrisy as, can you please remind me, which top flight English club once hired relegation dogfight material Avram Grant as their manager?

Now, if you haven't got anything more to offer than overused cliches, straw clutching delusions, outrageous hypocrisy and a recycled joke from a City fan on a previous article can you do VMU the service of returning to VC? Preferably before Merlin has to write another embarrassing article reminding VC members how to behave on VF?
TheFamousNo7
Can't blame Moyes just yet ok he messed up in summer but how much of that was Woodwards naivety? To be honest their both in a no win situation. Gill and Fergie going at the same time dropped Woodward in it Gill should have stayed on for a year even if just in an advisory role and shown Woodward the ropes.
Moyes got left an ageing squad with no midfield something everybody I know has been saying needed rectifying since God knows when. A problem Fergie either couldn't see or was unwilling to address. I often wonder if Fergie purposefully went out of his way not to fix midfield just to prove everyone wrong. The ageing squad isn't helped by the vast quantity of mediocre players we've managed to acquire in the last few seasons. If ever the saying quality over quantity needed verifying just look at our squad compared to other teams. Fergie has at lot to answer for when it comes to the squad and Moyes it would seem will be the sacrificial lamb for it.
