The Thoughts of Moyes - Newcastle (h)

And so, things are not what we believe they should be at Old Trafford!

With Arsenal disappearing off in the distance, as far as we`re concerned, United suffered another home defeat this lunch-time when Newcastle beat us 1-0.

Following, what surely must be the end of our title hopes (as early as December), David Moyes had a few words to say in his post-match press conference,

'It could have been much better, we were needing a goal to give us confidence. They got a goal we could have done better with and it changed the game."

'We did not create enough but we did create some. When you are not quite firing you need things to go for us, they didn't."

'I was due to take him (Van Persie) off after 60 minutes but if I had people would have said what are you doing? We were chasing the game and needed to get a goal back."

'You try and win the next game. We move on. We will try and win the next game, never think much further than that.'

Is anyone else starting to lose faith in Moyes?

Tbh I never wanted him in the first place but this isn't 100% his fault. Our supposedly brilliant squad is crap and its been crap for a few seasons now, Fergie knew about our problems and he done nothing to fix them and now as it stands we still haven't sorted it out. We were spoon fed crap about Cleverly being great, Welbeck Englands future star striker, Anderson was "always going to come good". Rio was too old last season, Young, Valencia and Nani are not top wingers, Fellaini is not a 27 million pound central midfielder so there are many issues we need to deal with and its going to take a lot of money to sort it all out. Will the board release those kinds of funds or even a substantial amount in January? Is Moyes just a scapegoat? We have signed a huge sponsorship deal, sold Ronny for near a 100 million, regularly sell out O.T, sell huge amounts of merchandise and yet we have a situation where we spend only 27 million on one over rated player and mess about haggling on fees when we've been told what a player will cost us. I cannot accept that this is all Moyes' doing. Although I would like to see Moyes look beyond Goodison for potential recruits. The people at the top have a lot to answer for as much as Moyes. We can all talk about who should be playing out of our current squad but realistically there are only 5 or 6 top players in it and we've rarely had them all available to us. We have too many average squad type players who are getting into the first team regularly. We need to let some of them go and replace them with ready made top class players. Whether the board will sanction that kind of rebuilding remains to be seen, so far its all been waffle. January will be very interesting.

The fact that Fergie wanted to splash 35 mil on Hazard and Lucas Moura each goes to show that even he felt we had no world class, or even potential world class talent on the wings and that the club needed freshening up and some major money spent on it. Kagawa also marked the first admission that we need some creativity and directness coming from the midfield, it's just a shame thus far he hasn't found his Dortmund self to provide it. Fellaini was an admission we lack steel and physicality in the midfield and it's also a shame he hasn't found his Everton self to provide it either. The fact that when Carrick is out also we've got no-one to control a game shows we're light in the deep-playmaker department also. So now on top of needing to sort out the wings and central midfield we've also got to replace Ferdinand and potentially Evra also.

Thankfully some areas of the team look safe for another decade with Januzaj, Jones, Rafael and De Gea all fulfilling their potential and thankfully also RVP, Vidic, Carrick and Rooney all have a good few seasons left in them. Smalling Evans, Valencia and Hernandez in my eyes have done enough to warrant a stay as squad players also. The jury is still out on Zaha, Kagawa, Fellaini and Welbeck (still believe he just needs to workout where the net is and he'll be a class player to have). The rest though have a lot to prove and at this point should be playing for their careers.
