Rio to play in Zagreb

Ledley King is still struggling with his knee on which he had an operation this summer. He has not travelled to Croatia with the England squad, out of precaution, after still feeling uncomfortable despite resting on Monday. The Spurs defender deputised for Rio Ferdinand in Saturday's game against Macedonia and was one of the few players to come away with any credit so his absence could be a blow to England. However, probably to McClaren's relief, Rio is back in training and should get straight back into the side taking on Croatia on Wednesday evening.

To be honest, I'd have been delighted to see King in Croatia and Rio resting in Manchester for Saturday's game against Wigan but of course it's deeply selfish from me. Now we must pray to avoid another injury though Vidic and Brown are available in defence but I feel uncomfortable when there's no Ferdinand in the back four.

Glad to see him back but i wouldnt say he was sorely missed on saturday.

Some creativity was missed, desperately... But against Croatia the defence will be tested, too, so England need Rio. Wigan will be a serious test so let's hope he gets over the game without injury.

yeah as long as rios fit for wigan let him play

It is a pity really that King got injured as I thought that he played really well. But Ferdinand will add us that extra bit of defense (and attack) in the team, that didn't seem to be there against Macedonia.

lets be honest, Rio is in the team due to the fact he's a big name not a consistent performer. Is he good?? YES is he world class? one day maybe.....is he better than Ledley King? NO. Everytime King is in the team he performs and never lets any one down, it's about time he becomes Terrys wing man and Rio can sit on the bench next to the has been Neville.
