Rooney Update (03/07/2013)

Out on his ear, shortly after David Moyes had decided he wanted to surround himself with his own men, Mike Phelan has had a few words to say about the Wayne Rooney affair.

Phelan, obviously aware of what may have been going on between Rooney and the club, seems to give the indication that perhaps, just perhaps, Rooney is seeking a fresh challenge with Phelan quoted, in the red-top press, as having remarked,

"Wayne is at the greatest club you can be at."

"Why would you want to jeopardize that, unless you want a fresh challenge and you feel that challenge isn`t being met at Manchester United."

Continuing, Phelan remarks about the transfer requests (two or one - whoever you believe), further remarking,

"You can put the first one down to experience but the second one is putting yourself right out there."

"Every player is entitled to express a desire to want to move on. Any player can do that at any time."

"In Wayne`s case, in the first instance, he took a lot of advice and got steered towards that call but the manager was terrific."

"He talked to him and asked why would he want to leave the club. The press conference Sir Alex gave was a bit of a tear-jerker and it was genuine."

"Somewhere down the line there will be words said, there will be meetings, They`ll see if he`s still alive and worth going for it or they`ll call time on it."

So, from those words of wisdom are we to surmise that Sir Alex Ferguson and Phelan had doubts about Rooney being up for it anymore?

Is it just me or have we heard more from Phelan since he's left than we ever have before?

Probably keeping himself in the public eye so he's remembered when he starts job hunting. That or he's got a book coming out and he's taken publicity pointers from Tony Adams :-D
