Two Wonderful Statistics

My love of statistics surfaces again!

The result last night, a 1-1 draw, augers well for our progression in the Champions League, on the last 19 occasions we`ve drawn an away leg of a Champions League knockout tie, we`ve gone on to progress on 17 of those occasions.

Returning to last night, in Madrid, the magnitude of hanging on to that 1-1 draw is shown in the fact that Real Madrid mustered 28 shots, including blocked ones, which is more than Manchester United have faced in any Champions League or Premier League fixture this season.

Madrid have a shoot on sight policy though, under 50% of the chances were on target and even then the ones on target weren't clear cut goalscoring opportunities. Personally thought whilst we had fewer shots we definitely had the better chances.

Did notice they were having a crack at any opportunity. Sign of how well the team defended that Madrid had to take half chances for the majority of shots
