Sir Alex Keen on Lampard

Rumours relating to the possible acquisition of the Chelsea midfielder, Frank Lampard, are gaining momentum.

Today, the Daily Telegraph insinuates that Sir Alex Ferguson is weighing up making Lampard a summer acquisition, on a year-long contract, believing that the veteran can still do a job at the very highest level.

The implications are there that Sir Alex would like to take the player in the January transfer window but is hesitant as he`d still be under contract and would command some sort of fee.

Once he becomes a free agent, when his Chelsea contract expires in the summer, we expect Lampard to have numerous offers to consider, whether he`d accept one from United remains to be seen!

Can't imagine why we'd want him, he certainly doesn't improve the squad. Perhaps offers Rooney some competition for the role behind the striker but ever be selected over him. Also lampard only thrives when playing behind a target man who's big and strong a player we don't have and a style of play we don't play. His wages would be too much for the service we'll get in return. The only reason I can imagine fergie getting him is to replace some lost experience in midfield?

The only way I can see this happening is if Fergie's got it into his head that he can rotate Lampard and Scholes to keep experience in midfield without having to play Giggs in the middle. Unless Giggs or Scholes are retiring I'm sure I read that Scholes was staying on for another year though. Wouldn't do Cleverly any harm training with Scholes and Lampard would help his game or any of our young midfielders to that point
