Bread And Butter!

Bread And Butter!

Having scored so early, against West Ham last night, the opportunity was there to go on and score a hat-full.

Unfortunately, that didn`t prove to be the case and any late-comers, to Old Trafford, would have missed the only goal of the game.

But, as Sir Alex Ferguson pointed out, in his post-match press conference, 1-0 victories are the bread-and-butter upon which successful title campaigns are based with the boss remarking,

"Tonight`s results have drawn us away from Chelsea a little bit further."

"We`re still ahead in the league but City are on our tails and it`s going to be a long season."

"The importance of winning 1-0 in certain games is that your opponents know the resilience is there."

"If you look at some of the really important 1-0`s we`ve had….go back to beating Newcastle when they were nine points clear of us in 1996 - our 1-0 that night won us the league."

"There are important 1-0 victories. We`ve had many of them."

But, some would say, the most important thing to be taken from last night, apart from the three points, is the fact we didn`t concede the first goal and leave ourselves chasing the game.
