Defender Targeted

Can anyone out there recall when we last let in so many goals in so few games of a Premier League season?

I`m not sure whether it`s down to our defensive frailties or simply the fact that the holes between the defence and the midfield are very inviting for the opposition to explore.

However, if you believe the newspapers, moves are afoot to plug that gap.

It`s being reported that Sir Alex Ferguson is keen on signing the Torino Italian international centre back Angelo Ogbonna with spies, from the Old Trafford scouting network, having watched the player in his last two appearances for Torino.

Is he the answer to our problems?

Personally, I`m not sure the problem lies at the heart of the defence, how about you?

With Ferdinand unsure as to whether he's staying and getting older and older, Vidic being unable to stay injury free and getting older and Jones appearing more of a holding mid with Smalling more of a RB I'd say we're pretty short in the CB position and could do with strengthening there. I think Smalling lacks the aggression and communication to be an effective CB and plays better at RB as a more defensive option. At CB Jones seems wasted as he has the skills and attitude to be the midfield general we need and I'm not convinced of him at CB. Thus only really leaving us with Evans.
