'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Dave Sexton - RIP

Yesterday, football lost one of it`s true gentleman.

Dave Sexton passed away, age 82, with football now mourning the loss of one of its coaching greats.

Sexton managed Manchester United in the late seventies and early eighties with a modicum of success. He steered United to second place in the top flight and lost a cup final, 3-2 against Arsenal (in 1979) which many consider to be amongst the best,

His time at United came to an end in 1981 but an old United favourite, Lou Macari, has no doubts about Dave`s pedigree remarking after news of his sad death,

"Of all the managers I worked with, Dave was top of the pile."

"He was a great man. Everyone had the greatest respect for him. Dave was football crazy. After he retired I always enjoyed bumping into him at matches."

"I knew he was poorly because he hadn`t been seen as much recently and you knew that if Dave wasn`t going to games, then he wasn`t well. I`m gutted."

And so are a lot of those who grew to know the man,

Dave Sexton - RIP
