'If It's Football, It's Vital'

A Quiet Entrance!

Qualification is assured and what a bonus that is when you have to go to somewhere as hostile as Galatasaray!

Memories of 1993 and the mayhem that surrounded our visit are still vivid memories.

Yesterday, when United arrived, not much seemed to have changed with 1,000 Turks intent on offering their 'Welcome to Hell` arrival mantra. Therefore, it seem something of a shame that Sir Alex Ferguson ensured they were disappointed by exiting the airport via an underground system, or as Sir Alex put it, with a wry smile on his face,

"We came underground!"

"We didn`t get the greeting from the fans, we dodged that."

"In 1993 it was incredible, quite frightening, but we`ve been a few times and are now used to the Turkish atmosphere."

"It is fanatical but is no issue for us."

Especially with the group in the bag!

You can never expect to go to Greece or turkey and win, their crowds are insane and the effect it has on their team is amazing. A wise move tactically to avoid the entrance though as it prevents the players from being afraid and intimidated and losing the mental battle before its even begun, didn't help overall though. Valiant effort from the team, a real trial by fire for Powell and his champions league debut to play in away to a Turkish side.
