'If It's Football, It's Vital'

It`s a Waste of Time

I couldn`t have put it better myself!

Once again everything has been put on the back-burner so that international football can take centre stage.

But, whilst some countries are involved in World Cup qualifiers; others are just taking part in meaningless friendly games with England being the obvious case.

Speaking about the nonsense of it all, Sir Alex Ferguson has remarked,

"Friendly games at this time of the year don`t mean a thing to me. We`ve always supported competition games, because players should be available for those. But friendlies are a different issue."

Is that why our two star strikers - Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie - have been conveniently withdrawn from their respective squads?

Friendlies are pointless for established stars. It would be wiser to use friendlies as an opportunity to test untested or obscure players who aren't regularly called up, you never know what you'll stumble across. I mean, last night Hodgson discovered England has some potential world beaters who could displace the average under performing stars who always somehow manage to get in the squad no matter how much they disappoint or how off form or bad they are.
