Rooney Nominated for Ballon d'Or

We may not have even made it out of the group stages of the Champions League last season.

We may even have crashed out of the Europa League at the first attempt, but somebody likes our Wayne as Mr Rooney is the only Englishman to be nominated in a class of 23 for the prestigious Ballon d`Or, the list being:

Sergio Agüero,
Xabi Alonso,
Mario Balotelli,
Karim Benzema,
Gianluigi Buffon,
Sergio Busquets,
Iker Casillas,
Cristiano Ronaldo,
Didier Drogba,
Radamel Falcao,
Zlatan Ibrahimović,
Andrés Iniesta,
Lionel Messi,
Manuel Neuer,
Neymar,
Mesut Özil,
Gerard Piqué,
Andrea Pirlo,
Sergio Ramos,
Wayne Rooney,
Yaya Touré,
Robin van Persie,
Xavi.

Who do you reckon will win then?

What is even the point of announcing the short list? The award always goes to one of Barca or Madrids players. In my opinion RVP and Falcao were more influential in their teams that are far weaker in strength than Ronaldo or Messi at Madrid or Barca.

Sorry, but this is just tokenism. Rooney did nothing last season to deserve inclusion on that list, but unfortunately, such was the dearth of deserving English talent, they had to pick him anyway to avoid accusations of bias.

Fcb he finished above Aguero and Balotelli in the goalscoring charts as well as contributing plenty of assists and being the engine and playmaker of one of the best teams in the world. The only names I think are shock inclusions are Balotelli and Neymar. Like I said pointless even discussing the list seeing as the real short list pretty much includes Ronaldo, Messi and one other player from Madrid or Barca.

This isn't solely based on club performance TF7. Mario and Neymar are surprise inclusions but I guess when their impact at international level is taken into account they merit their inclusion.
