Defensive Concerns

Yesterday, as in the last home game and also on a few games on our travels, our defence was far from being water-tight.

Although we`re keen to point out that we`ve not been helped by injuries, we just cannot afford to keep shipping goals and adopting the philosophy of being able to score more than the opposition every time.

It`s a point that Wayne Rooney has latched onto and after the 4-2 win over a Stoke City side that gave better than they got, at times, Rooney commented,

"Of course it is a concern If we want to be successful this season we can`t keep doing that. No disrespect to Stoke, but better opposition will punish us."

"We need to keep working and keep defending well."

We certainly do, if we replicate that defensive performance we witnessed yesterday, next weekend, Chelsea will, no doubt, take full advantage.

Pointless trying to improve goal difference if your scoring more but conceding more also. The lack of discipline at the back wont just cost us goal difference it will cost us games and points.
