Ferguson calls for EPL Winter Break

It is reported that Sir Alex Ferguson has re-started the campaign to get a winter break for the English leagues.

We here in England are one of the few countries in the whole of Europe who don't bother with a break, and Sir Alex would like to get one introduced to help teams. Important when you consider we have 5 games in 15 days.

Ferguson's view on the break idea: 'The Christmas programme is great in this country; we get great crowds then but why not start a three-week break on January 1 and use the whole of May when the weather is better?'

There is an alternative point of view of course. In fact two that I can think of.

Number 1: Well, why do we have so many fixtures? With a League reduction, coupled with the joke that is the Champions League we could drastically decrease the drain on clubs with European Interests. That of course is up to FIFA/UEFA, so no go there.

Number 2: In the USA, whilst sports are different an example I can give is baseball. A baseball game goes on for approx 3 hours, and if your fielding, your at least playing for 1.5 hours (bit like football). The difference is they play maybe 4 games a week, sometimes 2 in one night!

It's failed so far, and with (in my opinion) the FA failing whenever they try something new at the moment...this idea won't go away, but won't be addressed either.

"It is reported"... we can save this crap for the transfer rumours which we are now free of for a few months so can we have actual facts as and when they occur.
