'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Evra on that Handshake

Ahead of the fixture, against Liverpool yesterday, tensions were running high.

There were fears that the JUSTICE campaign could fall foul of a few idiots, as it turns out the afternoon couldn`t have gotten off to a better start when two adversaries from last season, Luis Suarez and Patrice Evra, shook hands in full view of the television cameras.

After the game, Patrice gave his views on the events of the day, commenting,

"The most important thing was respect. That was the most important word as it was a game between two big clubs who have both had big tragedies."

"People were talking about me shaking hands with Suarez but the story of the clubs are bigger than that."

"That` is why if I didn`t shake hands with Suarez it was not respecting the story."

"In the end I`m glad he shook my hand. But more important was respecting the families."

"They lost a lot of people and it was not an easy day for Liverpool fans."

Indeed it wasn`t and I have to admit the build-up t the kick-off provided some very touching moments.

Glad to see them act like men and put it behind them and didn't attempt to make the day about them.
