Hillsborough

Hillsborough

The last week or so has seen some disturbing revelations coming from the authorities relating to the 1989 Hillsborough disaster.

Quite rightly, the relatives of the 96 who died on that dreadful day should push on and get some kind of justice with regards to the loss of their loved one.

This weekend though, with Liverpool hosting the fixture, a fixture that has been hugely controversial in recent years, the call has already gone out for the obscene chants that are usually exchanged between the two sets of supporters, but chants that go beyond the boundaries of acceptable banter, be stopped.

In our opinion it is a reasonable request, but only if it is adhered to by both camps will it ever be deemed to have been successful.

But away from the chanting, the fixture promises to be an emotional affair with the Liverpool supporters, and the club, keen to drive home the point that what happened at Hillsborough is far from over.

According to information coming our way, an emotional tribute is planned with the two club captain`s - Nemanja Vidic and Steven Gerrard - taking part in the releasing of 96 red balloons.

We also understand that Liverpool will be unveiling 3 mosaics, paying homage to the deceased as well as three card displays designed to keep the momentum going.

The first of these in the Anfield Road stand will spell out a giant 96, with the second in the Lower Centenary Stand spelling out the word Justice whilst giant cards held aloft on the Kop will spell out the words The Truth.

All-in-all it promises to be an emotional afternoon and we`d ask all United supporters to adhere to the requests made by both clubs, respect those that died on that horrible afternoon but, more importantly, cheer on United to a memorable victory at Anfield.

Hopefully those idiots in the crowd during the Wigan game aren't attending the upcoming Liverpool match. Unfortunately I'm going to miss the game I just hope the pre-match ceremony doesn't spur Liverpool on. Then again, they always seem to up their game just for us.
