Last season was something akin to a massive wake up call.
It`s not often that Manchester United end a season without a trophy but the fact that it was Manchester City that took the Premier League title and Chelsea who brought the Champions League trophy back to England only served to make the disappointment harder to bear.
Sir Alex Ferguson obviously seized upon the disappointment to persuade our owners that we needed to invest and the acquisitions that United took on board, most notably Shinji Kagawa and Robin Van Persie should serve us well in our quest to fill the trophy cabinet at the end of the season.
Anderson, a player who knows he has to raise his game to get a regular starting place this season, has spoken to the media about what playing for united is all about, remarking,
"We have to do better. Manchester United have to win every trophy and we`re disappointed if we don`t."
"There`s always pressure to do well when you play for this club."
"At the beginning of the season it`s difficult but we`ve got a couple of wins and now we want more."
We may have a couple of wins but Sir Alex Ferguson will be aware that hose wins were achieved by winning against Fulham and Southampton by the odd goal in five. Whilst accepting that we had defensive issues for the Fulham fixture, he`ll be a little concerned as to how newly promoted Southampton caused us numerous problems before a late two goal burst from Van Persie settled the match in our favour.
Unfortunately, the international break has left us in a position whereby any doubts about our side having cleared out the cobwebs of the failures associated with last season may still exist, but like Anderson remarks - at the beginning of the season it`s difficult, that`s why we always finish a season so strongly is it not?
