'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Spanner in the Works

Could the recent, reputed, interest from Zenit St Petersburg have affected Nani?

According to tabloid reports it appears that when Zenit made the enquiry Nani expected it to be turned down flat.

However, it appears that only an excessive wage demand of £200k a week put Zenit of, but the fact that United didn`t tell them where to go has had ramifications.

One Sunday red-top reports that Nani recently switched his phone off so that he couldn`t be contacted by Zenit, clearly wishing not to go, with an insider (so the tabloid claims), remarking,

"It wasn`t an accident that Nani was incommunicado. He told his agent to ask for silly money if Zenit wanted to talk. He expected them to turn him down flat, but they still wanted to talk."

"In the end, Nani turned off his phone and told people he was with at the time not to divulge his whereabouts if anyone called them."

"He doesn`t want to go. He`s happy to sit out his deal if United make things this difficult."

But, it appears; that Nani may be more than a little miffed about the fact United allowed Zenit the chance to even pursue their man!

If zenit are offering silly money then I think we'd be mad not too accept and reinvest to be honest. On his day Nani is pure quality and a game changer however he just isn't consistent enough to be playing for a side who want to win the highest honours. Unless he can sort out his form then I don't blame the club for not offering him his ridiculous wage demands and trying to sell him on because of it. Ultimately if Nani really wants to stay then he should prove it by putting pen to paper on a more than reasonable contract offer and also get his head down and work on being effective over 90 minutes rather than the odd 20 minutes here and there. Don't get his end game either, he said he would consider leaving and that there's clubs and leagues outside England that he would go to, we call his bluff and accept a bit from a foreign league and club and he rejects it. It's pretty evident he wants to stay but he wants to stay on his terms and Rooney might of got away with playing hard ball with Fergie but I don't think Nani will. Definitely needs a reality check.
