Carrick on England Plans

Back in the summer when Michael Carrick decided that if he wasn`t a starter he didn`t fancy sitting on the bench for England, not many people would have predicted what has happened since.

Carrick has come back from the wilderness and is now a regular in the squads Roy Hodgson selects, having made his return to the international scene in the friendly against Italy recently.

Speaking to the media, ahead of the World Cup qualifier with Moldova tonight, Michael has had this to say to the media bout his England return and his ambitions, commenting,

"I don`t think it`s so much needing to prove myself to anyone else."

"It`s more from inside."

"As a kid growing up watching England that was the biggest thing. It still is - and representing your country is as good as it gets."

"I remember the feeling I had when I got my first cap. That`s what I keep looking back to and I keep getting that feeling, as I did last month against Italy."

"I still want to be part of England, that`s why I`m here and he (Roy Hodgson) didn`t have to say too much."

"I know I`ll get a fair chance and if I`m playing well enough and deserve my place I`ll have a chance of getting it. If I don`t I won`t."

"I`m not here to think I should be guaranteed a place by any means because that`s not what playing for England is all about."

"It`s up to me to earn the right to be in the squad to start with and I want to try and stake my claim to get in the team."

Some very honest thoughts and it will be interesting to see if Michael starts now that Roy Hodgson has recalled to his squad those who were rested for the Italy game.
