'If It's Football, It's Vital'

The Difference Was……..

But for those two late goals from Robin Van Persie, United could have been looking down the barrel of their worst away start since we were relegated, by Manchester City, all those years ago.

Thankfully, our resilience saw us through and instead of going into the international break worrying, we do, in fact, sit quite comfortably in the table.

After the dramatic late win, Sir Alex Ferguson had his own vision of who was responsible for the turnaround whilst also commenting on how he perceived the match went, remarking,

"We didn`t start playing until Paul Scholes came on the pitch."

"His range of passing, consistency of passing and presence turned the game."

"In the first half we were more or less in control but lost the goal and we were on the back foot."

"Van Persie scored a fantastic equalizer and you think: 'Let`s get down to business and get the game done in the second half."

"But credit to Southampton they kept putting the ball in the box."

"Their plan was to put in back-post crosses and they scored two goals from that. That was disappointing for us but, to be fair, Southampton are good at it."

"I thought we were well out of it until Scholes came on."

Or could it have been Nigel Adkins decision to replace his front three, a front three that had run our defence ragged, influenced the game as well?

Still the only truly quality CM we have and unless someone incredibly talented is hiding away in the academy we will really have to consider signing a quality replacement. I'm sure there is the quality out there at a good price who is still young and can offer us many years of quality service for the money spent.
