Rooney Injury Worse Than Feared

Although Sir Alex Ferguson had intimated that the thigh cut Wayne Rooney suffered would keep him out for four weeks, the medical diagnosis is that it could be a lot longer.

It appears that Wayne was immediately taken to hospital after the injury was sustained and reports indicate that the cut was deep enough to have reached the bone and that it also sliced the thigh muscle.

Reports suggest that a single stitch was used to close the inside of the wound with eleven stitches put in place to close the skin, all done under a general anaesthetic.

Rooney was kept in overnight before being discharged in the morning but the wound will be checked, over the coming days, to ensure that it hasn`t become infected.

We`ll report further if any more news becomes available.
