Not a Mortal Blow

Cupping my hand to my ear, late last night, I was certain I could hear the strains of blue moon echoing across the city.

Wrestling that title back off of Manchester City was always going to be hard but to give them a three point start, by losing our first game of the season, has provided them with the initiative form the off.

But United are famous for their resilience and to lose the first game of the season doesn`t always condemn your chances of pulling of a Premier League title triumph. However it does appear to dramatically reduce them.

It transpires that a team that has lost the opening game of the season has only gone on to win the title on two occasions since the formation of the Premier League.

Back in 1992/1993 and 1995/1996, a team did lose their opening fixtures but go on to claim the Premier League title, and the name of that team - Manchester United
