Carrick`s England Return

Although the television pundits inferred that Michael Carrick might have done better for the Italian equalizer on Wednesday night, it was great to see Carrick pulling on an England shirt again.

Afterwards, Roy Hodgson reminded those journalists present at the after match press conference of Carrick`s circumstances, commenting,

"We enquired as to whether Michael would consider the Euros and we were told categorically by his agent that he was not prepared to come."

"I had to accept that at face value and not pick. I don`t know how it changed but the message came back he hadn`t turned his back on the national team and if we wanted him, he was prepared to come back."

"I spoke to him and he was happy to be a part of it. That was music to my ears and against Italy, he justified it."

He certainly did.

And as for Carrick suddenly finding himself wearing the captain`s armband once Frank Lampard went off, Hodgson had this to say,

"It was Frank`s decision, not mine. I personally would not have given someone who has just come back the captaincy."

A slap on the wrist for Mr Lampard then!
