The deal done yesterday (the signing of Robin Van Persie) has raised expectation levels at Old Trafford.

Although Sir Alex had inferred (as reported by a leading tabloid several weeks ago) that he was certain he could land the Dutch striker, many of us expected Van Persie to go to Serie A and Juventus.

But that didn`t turn out to be the case and already the tabloids are filling up with quotes from the remainder of the United players discussing how pleased they are to have Van Persie on their side.

One such player is Tom Cleverley. The youngster, who won his first England cap in midweek, had this to say about the acquisition, remarking,

"Robin will only strengthen us. He is an exciting player to link up with and adds to our goal-scoring ability with Welbeck, Rooney, Hernandez and Berbatov."

"I admired him at Arsenal. He is a world-class player, a goal-scorer and is proven in this league."

"Rooney and Van Persie were top scorers in the league last year and hopefully they can score as many this year."

If they do, we`ll be more-or-less home and dry in the race for the title, a mouth-watering prospect!
