United "persevere" with RVP chase

United didn't secure the signature of Robin van Persie on Wednesday, as reports claimed they would, but Sir Alex Ferguson is ready to "persevere" with his efforts to bring him in.

Arsenal, as many would suspect would be the case, don't want to deal with United with Sir Alex "hopeful" that the Dutchman comes to Old Trafford: 'we have made a bid and they have been trying to negotiate with other clubs. We just have to persevere.

'Hopefully it will come our way. We are trying our best but there is no progress at this moment in time.'

Little is being indicated by Arsenal, according to Sir Alex, as to how close United are to landing the striker and he also says he doesn't have a clue himself what way he thinks this pursuit will go: 'I do not have a gut feeling on it at the moment, I must admit. We are not getting any breakthrough with Arsenal.

'It is difficult to say why they are operating this way. I do not know what their thoughts are because they are not giving anything away.'

It's clear that van Persie wants to leave Arsenal, although it's also clear that they'd rather he didn't go to a rival in this country and they want the Dutchman to go abroad but it's believed Juventus have dropped their interest.

Money talks though and eventually United will be successful and secure the signing of RVP, surely?
