'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Now That Would Be a Shock

With the chase for Leighton Baines being, as we speak, stalled, could Sir Alex Ferguson be ready to switch to another target?

Several news sources are inferring that Sir Alex, aware of Ashley Cole`s contract situation, at Chelsea, could be preparing for a shock swoop for the England left back.

Cole, widely experienced in the left-back position, is entering the last year of his contract and the inference is that Sir Alex will try to engineer a deal to bring Cole to Old Trafford.

However, if were was to be brutally honest, we suspect that any offer for Cole would be laughed at by Chelsea!

Can't see this one happening just tabloid lies again. Anyway are we not trying to find a long term successor to Evra? Why would you replace him with a player who is older than him? Not much older admittedly but the fee would be ridiculous plus Chelsea would never sell he's the best defender they have.

Cole is currently on par with Evra, both in the past season have been beat by every average right sided player in the league and now both aren't quite the world class players they use to be. Like MoterMad said we're supposed to be looking for a long term successor to Evra and Cole certainly isn't it, that said with Baines' age taken into consideration he really isn't it either.
