Rio Won`t Stop Tweeting!

Not too long ago, Sir Alex Ferguson reiterated that he was unable to prevent his players from joining a social networking site.

All he could do was to put some sort of restriction on his player`s discussing team matters.

Just recently, hot on the heels of the John Terry court case, our own Rio Ferdinand has come under fire for replying to a derogatory tweet about Ashley Cole.

Despite the furor, Rio is flatly refusing to give up his Twitter account, commenting in the tabloid press this morning,

"I would love to have been able to be close to people like John Barnes, Gazza and Paul Ince when I was a kid. I would love to have just got their autographs, let alone be able to speak to them publicly."

"Twitter is something that lets fans get a bit closer to you, letting them see you do everyday things. A lot of fans presume that you`re at the opening of a bar, nightclub or premiere every other night."

"They don`t realize you`ve got a normal life in most ways, although obviously you`re playing in front of thousands of people, with millions of people watching on a Saturday."

If I were to be perfectly frank, I`d say Rio has a point, but then again, I`m not one who participates in this social networking malarkey, I prefer to keep my private thoughts just that!
