Smalling Injury Blow

Only last week Sir Alex Ferguson was tipping Chris Smalling to be ready for the start of the season.

A groin injury had seen Smalling ruled out of the Euro 2012 tournament but everything appeared to be going smoothly in his recuperation programme.

Unfortunately, that has now all gone pear-shaped with the news coming out of Carrington yesterday afternoon that Smalling had suffered a broken metatarsal and will now be out for up to ten weeks.

Speaking about the situation Sir Alex has commented to the media,

"He got an injury on the Wednesday and straight away, we decided to the operation so he`s out."

"It`s difficult to say with a metatarsal but it could be he is out for ten weeks,"

"He`s not carrying any luck, but he`s young and we`ve done the right thing in getting it done immediately and getting him back as quickly as we can."

Here`s hoping this is the end of an injury jinx that appears to have struck the young defender.

So no Evans for the start of the season nor Smalling leaving us with Vidic; who's still not back, Ferdinand; who's injury prone and jones; who's not yet much fit. Not too mention Evans and Smalling are our closest things to natural back ups for the LB and RB positions leaving us with only two first team options in the fullback positions. An injury crisis in defence before the seasons even began is just ridiculous, Fergie really does need to bolster the position with reinforcements.

Time to ring Jamie Carragher he's always helped us out before, he even scored a goal or two for us.
