Having baulked at the suggestion that Spurs wanted £40 million for Luka Modric, it looks as if they`ll be recouping far less than that for his sale.

The press is rife with reports that Real Madrid will be signing the Croatian and that personal terms are being discussed.

The fee - £28 million!

any english team would have needed over 40 million to have him, 30 mil from madrid is acceptable imo

there is no chance that Spurs will deal at 28 mil for Modric, especially when they turned down a rumoured 40 mil bid from Chelsea last summer.

whilst i would not rule out Modric leaving, you can rest assured it would be for far more money than that, if he does.

Oh well such a shame, who the press continuously link us with now? Hopefully this drawn out saga and rumour will finally die.

All this summer's Modric stories are as definite as last summer's ones. Now as then it was all as good as done. All the 'money rules' fundamentalists were preaching to the sceptics and non-believers. Then as now, were reeled off in the empty gossip the ever more numerous supposed replacements for Modric. I would be surprised if Modric left Spurs anytime soon.

I can see Modric playing for united as a perfect replacement for scholes, although the creation is not as good at scoring so I doubt united board a dumb enough or as dumb as chelski to pay over the odds. £28 million is a great return as it is close to double what spurs paid for him, to be honest, Madrid would be ideal so he can't strengthen a rival, all in all he will be gone and spurs will be the ones coming out laughing.

Would think that if Modric leaves Spurs it will be to some eam outside the premiership. Ley won't want to strengthen Man U or Chelsea.
