Rooney Explained?

With England now having flown back home, to Luton Airport, the inquest on our failure continues.

Whilst Roy Hodgson appears to be fireproof, having only taken on the managerial role towards the back end of the season, our own Wayne Rooney continues to receive some flak.

Accusations are flying around that Rooney`s performances were not up to scratch and didn`t fulfill the expectation levels the mere mention of his name bring.

Trying to explain how and why it all went so wrong for Wayne, Roy Hodgson has commented to the tabloid journalists,

"When he missed the first two games we were all believing that what we need to do now is to get to the third and Wayne will win us the championship."

"That maybe was too much to ask of him. He didn`t have his best game. He certainly tried very hard."

"That might be down to a number of factors, but I don`t think that fitness was one."


Many may argue against that point but if you ask me Wayne looked short of match practice and never really go the kind of service / back-up he thrives on.

He deserves the flack, he takes unnecessary praise all too often, he's good for you guys (although with the way your team set up goals, many strikers would be) but for England he's a carthorse, as are a good few others.
The Fear
When he missed the first two games we were all believing that what we need to do now is to get to the third and Wayne will win us the championship. - Only the deluded and the England team believed that, I hope a majority of us remained level headed and kept the low expectations. Rooney, like many players, can't carry his club form onto the international stage.
