'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Honoured and Privileged

Glancing at images, in the press, of every man and his dog carrying the Olympic torch as it weaves its way along some weird and wonderful route down to the Olympic Stadium, I admit I have been quite critical.

It`s really peeved me off that the carrying of the torch seems to have become a bandwagon that any old celebrity feels they can jump on. Forget the charity tag, we all know they`re doing it, mostly, to remain in the public eye.

But yesterday, somebody who truly deserves to carry the torch did so.

Sir Bobby Charlton, at the age of seventy-four, did his bit for the London 2012 Games, by carrying the torch past Old Trafford.

The legend that is Sir Bobby, was roundly applauded by those who had come to witness the event and the great man himself looked to be visibly moved and honoured to have contributed.

Well done Sir, is what we`d like to add.
