Porto Winger to Replace Nani?

With rumours abound that United and their Portuguese winger, Nani, might be parting company, it hasn`t taken long for the name of a potential replacement to be banded about by the tabloid press.

Nani, who has seen contract talks break down without a solution being found, still has a contract binding him to United until 2014, but despite, reportedly, being offered salary increase to something rumoured to be 130,000 a week, a deal is far from being struck.

To that effect, the tabloid press are now inferring that if Nani and United do part company then United will seek to bring the young Porto winger James Rodriguez to Old Trafford.

Rodriguez, a 20 year-old Colombian, is rated in the 20 million bracket and since joining FC Porto for the Argentine side, Club Atletico Banfield, some two years ago.

It remains to be seen if there is any further movement on three fronts, firstly the Nani contract offer, secondly a possible departure for Nani and lastly the possible recruitment of young James Rodriguez.

We`ll sit here fingers poised ready to pound the keyboard if there is any further news!

Rodriguez looks like a fantastic player and there's no doubt he has the potential to be world class. However, I'd sooner see us keep Nani to be honest, theres just too much risk involved. Imagine we get rid of Nani and get Rodriguez as a replacement, on paper it seems fine but Rodriguez might not cut it in a more difficult league, or like Nani it might take him years to adjust. Then if he does prove successful who's to say he won't move on if a Barca or Madrid become interested, most of these South Americans don't stick around. Who knows though it could work out and we'd be better off for it. Either way I can't see the deal happening anyway.
