Ferdinand Dismay!

Ferdinand Dismay!

Being omitted from the original squad must have been hard to live with but the events of yesterday must have been like pouring salt into an open wound.

When it was announced that Gary Cahill had been forced out of the 23 man squad with a double fracture of the jaw, surely Rio Ferdinand was the ideal replacement.

But apparently not, in another gesture that United fans just fail to comprehend, the new England manager, Roy Hodgson, has decided to call up Martin Kelly as the replacement or Cahill.

You get the impression that Roy would ask Jack Charlton to come out of retirement rather than ask Rio!

Six Liverpool players in the England squad, it says it all really doesn`t it!

He has no God given right to be there, unlike the impression his 'representatives' give. We as a nation have been completely dogged by injuries, so I don't know why it'd be such an obvious choice to call up Ferdinand who has been unlucky with injuries himself. There's also the tension between Ferdinand and Terry which cannot be ignored. I would have actually picked Smalling I think.

I understand Ferdinand being *****ed off. Fair play to Hodgson if he was going to impose a new era onto the England squad but keeping lampard, gerrard, cole and terry all in the team suggests otherwise. Not too mention, like Ferdinand, some of these players age (lampard, terry) and injury record (terry, gerrard) has knocked the best out of them and they've been exposed for being truly average players this season yet they still get selected kind of blows Hodgsons 'footballing reasons' out of the water. Ferdinand wasn't selected because someone less fit to represent England was, a certain cheating, racist ex-captain (who's injured with cracked ribs if I'm not mistaken?). Fergies right in saying he's not fit to play a game every 4 days but I don't think he was telling Hodgson to not pick him, I think he was getting at that he can't be a first team regular but more of a squad option to provide experience, as if Ferdinand did go it wouldn't necessarily mean he would play. Still bemused how England's future internationals like Richards, Smalling, Johson and Sturridge weren't selected to be honest whilst dross like Downing, Henderson, Johnson and Defoe got in.

John Terry is a disgrace to humanity. The main reason Richards and Ferdinand are not at the euros is because they publicly backed Anton Ferdinand, end of. Wio has indeed hadf his injury problems, and he ain't getting any younger, but he managed to stay injury free for the last few months of the season, so would have been a much better choice than a man who is facing trial for racially aggravated assault. I dislike Ferdinand immensely (as do most City supporters), but to choose someone like Terry over him due entirely to politics is ******** ridiculous.

The FA, Hodgson and Terry are at serious risk of ending up with egg on their face if Terrry is found guilty (which I doubt he will be though he evidently is from the video footage, black and blind are two different mouth movements and noticeable from a mile off, with 'ind' being more subtle and 'ack' being more obvious or maybe that's just me). After the FA media parade about condemning comments if it comes out terry was racist and he represented the country then they're going to look like a bunch of fecking idiots, not that they don't already. Richards and Ferdinand are the victims due to one of the biggest (unts in the world being a (unt as usual and the Ignoranus' in charge not controlling the situation properly.

It sickens me that hodgson will be nurturing the likes of chamberlain, welbeck, wilshire etc over the next few years. He will set up for every game not to lose, park the bus and launch it up to that useless streak of ***** Carroll. The last time I felt like this as an England fan was pre 1994 and the turnip debacle. As for terry getting the nod to play for his country.....can't help but watch England with a very bad taste in my mouth. Gibbs or Baines for Ashley, smalling or Ferdinand for that Orc terry, wilshere for lampard. Anyone will do for the Liverpool contingent. This click needs to be removed from the England set up with a fresh start. If the FA end up with egg on their face, it's the least they deserve, even as an arsenal fan I can't help but feel sorry for him.....I thought Kelly was a full back anyway? Even more of an insult.

What's laughable is the FA lookin to reform youth football in an attempt to produce more technically gifted English talent but as soon as they hit senior level they might not make it as they don't fit the park-the-bus game plan the likes of Hodgson, Pulis, Di Matteo/Chelsea in general, to name a few employ and will then go unheard of or will be forced to play that boring, negative "football" (if you can call it that) and adapt to it and squander their potential. It's alright trying to produce better talent but ultimately with defence-minded managers they're always going to be wasted.

That free flowing England team of euro 96 seems like a distant memory now. The way we outplayed holland and there total football, with total football. It seems to me that a lot of the past managers come in to pick up there oversized pay check and work on damage limitation. When I saw hodgson announced as England manager my heart sank. Even twitchy would have been a better bet, at least he would have told the boys to go at em. Would much rather watch us go out with a bang then a whimper. Unfortunately when I look around the rest of Europe, we are the stoke city of international football. One shining light is that young seems to have stepped up to the plate with performances and goals. Let's be honest if Rooney has a bad tournament then that means England will. It's ashame he won't have the mastery and vision of young jack wilshere to play off.
04/06/2012 22:29:00
Rooney plays poorly when he's either marked out of the game, normally by two players due to his movement, work rate and ability, or suffers from a lack of service, something that only either really happens when he plays for England and then he drops too deep and becomes ineffective. He will suffer without players of Wilsheres quality behind him and feeding him the ball and relieving some of the pressure off himself by giving the opposition someone else to close down and mark. Instead he will have to rely on Parker, a guy who can read football but not play it and Gerrard, who's had the best knocked out of him. Not looking promising in the slightest. Hopefully your Chamberlain can prove to be a shining light for us but then with Hodgson he'll most probably opt for Downing wide right because he's more accustomed and fitted to the route 1 over the top football. Personally, with the current squad, I'd like to see Walcott played as a striker with Welbeck and young wide left with chamberlain wide right. An early exit for England I reckon, perhaps a consolation point to hopefully see off the older generation and give them some comfort. In fairness to Roy, it's good to see England being hard to break down (rather than the massacre and woeful defensive display v Germany) but defending is only half the game.
04/06/2012 22:46:00
Agree that could be a mouth watering front four.....heaps of pace to make up for the lack of creativity in the middle. Makes sense at least while Rooney is out. Unfortunatly i dont think hodgson will be that daring. Chamberlain could be our wild card, all depends on how much faith hodgson has in him. Reports from the England camp are that the senior players are very impressed with him in training. The fact that van persie was verbally signalling to the bench at his disappointment of chamberlain being substituted in one game shows how highly rated the boy is by his more senior team mates.
04/06/2012 23:37:00
I'd have Rio not Terry. The fact that they have chosen Terry makes me shudder.
