No Holding Player?

Ahead of the crucial Premier League climax this afternoon, Sir Alex Ferguson has re-iterated that he`ll not be buying a defensive midfield player this summer.

Although questions about whether Darren Fletcher will ever return to the player he once was remain unanswered, Sir Alex has no intentions of sitting somebody in front of what has sometimes looked a fragile back-four this season, remarking.

"I don`t think we`ve had a holding player since I have been her. I haven`t done it for 25 years, so why should I think about it now."

Obviously the man is not for turning.

A tactical deficiency i'm afraid. We don't need a holding play so much just someone who's defensive ability and game outweighs their attacking game, another Fletcher sort of player. All the big teams in the world have atleast 1 holding/defensive minded player, as a tactical option if not a starter, Madrid - Diarra/Khedira, Barca - Busquets/Mascherano, Bayern - Gustavo, Dortmund - Bender, City - De Jong/Barry, Inter - Cambiasso, Liverpool - Lucas, Chelsea - Essien/Mikel, Arsenal - Song, etc, etc... The holding player doesn't have to be world class or even particularly good just decent enough to provide a solid option and with Fletcher injured we don't have that option, that ability to shut up shop. Maybe Jones but the jury is still out as to whether he's a CB or CDM.
